Remedial

The Massage Therapist uses several specialised techniques to locate and repair damage and to support and speed up the body's own repair mechanisms. The massage is applied directly to the skin using a lubricating medium, usually oil, which ensures that the muscles associated with the disorder and mobilisation of the joint are deeply penetrated. Passive stretching moves are also used.

Remedial Massage is beneficial in that it helps to stimulate the blood supply allowing toxins in the muscles to be removed as well as calming the peripheral nervous system to ease pain and discomfort.

Remedial Massage also helps to tone and relax muscles so as to improve joint mobility.

Remedial Massage is particularly helpful for fibrositis, spondylitis, arthritis, frozen shoulder, muscular cramps, whiplash, muscular atrophy, sports and dancing injuries and pregnancy massage.

Sessions usually take 30 minutes, an hour or and hour and half, depending on the whether the practitioner will just address a specific area or give a whole body massage.

As oil is used, it is necessary for you to be unclothed for the treatment.  If you prefer a female or male therapist you should state this at the time of making your booking. If you have specific allergies to oils or creams it is advised that you bring your own oil, and inform the therapist of your allergies.

Some health funds do provide refunds for Remedial Massage and you should check with your fund if a rebate will be provided.  All of our Remedial Massage Therapists have ATMS accreditation.

Zen Shiatsu

Shiatsu literally translates as ‘finger pressure’ and is a Japanese therapy that has its origins in Oriental medial theory and traditional Japanese massage techniques. The Japanese adopted Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practices and enhanced its methods to develop the unique form of treatment known as Shiatsu.

Shiatsu therapists treat the whole body as well as specific problem areas by also addressing both emotional and physical wellbeing. The aim is to treat the body by balancing the flow of Ki (life energy), applying pressure to obstructed or weak areas. This relieves symptoms and resolves conditions, improving the patient’s strength and vitality.

You will be fully clothed throughout the massage, and will be lying on a large futon.  The therapist will move your body around to manipulate and stimulate the energy flows throughout your body.  It is a deeply nurturing and gentle massage that will help you feel deeply relaxed and rejuvenated.

From a Western perspective Shiatsu can be explained through its effect on the nervous system. Shiatsu activates the healing, conserving functions of the parasympathetic branch of the nervous system to calm the body’s overactive fight or flight responses (stress), giving space and time for the healing process to take over.

Shiatsu is recognised as being suitable for treatment of most common conditions including musculo-skeletal, menstrual, digestive and immune system disorders as well as being one of the most effective therapies for stress management and relaxation.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymph is a thick clear fluid spread through out the body passing between each cell. It carries our immune cells and plays a major role in clearing debris and old waste tissue out of the body. Sometimes this system can become sluggish or blockages can occur in some sections.

Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle rhythmic massage designed to improve the flow of lymph fluid around the body. The therapist touch is light and much slower than a regular massage, assisting the natural drainage patterns of the lymphatic system.

The effects of a lymphatic drainage massage may not be immediate. As the body adjusts to an improved lymph flow, some of the benefits that can be experienced include increase in immune function, reduced fluid retention and clearer skin. This therapy is useful to continue on a regular basis for vitality and general wellbeing.

Originally devised for post operative fluid retention this method is now proving useful for people with a lowered immunity and general fatigue like symptoms. The treatment invigorates the immune system and assists in improving immunity. It also improves the skin tone and condition.

This massage is not always appropriate for people who are taking immune suppressant drugs, and you should check with your specialist about this type of massage.  If you are in doubt ring us and we will make sure that this massage is appropriate.

Thai

There are various forms of Thai massage, which can emphasize either heavy deep tissue work or more gentle stretching movements.

The masseur can change the style of massage depending on your individual needs or preferences. Thai massage is performed whilst a person is fully dressed, and the person will lie on a large futon style mat on the floor. When having a Thai massage you should wear loose comfortable trousers and top that allows your body to be freely moved and manipulated.

Thai massage is very good for:

  • musculo-skeletal disorder
  • sporting injuries
  • improving flexibility
  • relaxation

Hot Rocks

Therapeutic stone massage promotes physical and spiritual balancing by using the energies of warm volcanic stones to relax the body at its deepest level. This ancient healing modality moves energy to depleted areas, relieves sore muscles, and produces a soothing and meditative state of peace, calm, and balance.

Acupressure

Acupressure is an ancient Chinese technique based on the principles of acupuncture, and involves the use of finger pressure (without the needles) on specific points along the body.

Acupressure is a way of accessing and releasing blocked or congested energy centers in the body. Chinese cultures believe the points to be junctures of meridian pathways that carry energy called chi. Western scientists have also mapped out and proven the existence of these points using electrical devices.

Acupressure massage therapy stimulates and activates the body’s own energies to help fight illness and restore harmony. Some of the acupressure points are significant as they relate to a specific part of the body while others are more general in their effect.
