Acupuncture

We have an energy and blood system that circulates throughout the body. When this energy is blocked the body's natural balance is lost, and we experience poor health or illness.

A traditional Chinese medicine, Acupuncture is a form of healing which focuses on achieving and maintaining the balance of the body's natural energy flow. It provides major benefits including:

  • drug-free relief
  • assistance in preventing disease
  • treatment of the cause as well as the symptoms
  • a holistic approach to illness, linking body, mind and emotions
  • effective treatment of many common illnesses

Acupuncture relies on our body's various pressure points to help encourage the balanced flow of energy. These pressure points can be stimulated by:

  • using super fine needles
  • moxibustion - a process that warms the pressure point with a traditional Chinese herb
  • suction cups
  • massage

Acupuncture can help you with the following issues:

  • Musculoskeletal
  • Respiratory
  • Digestive
  • Gynaecological and obstetric
  • Neurological
  • Cardio-vascular

Pregnancy and Chinese Medicine

Acupuncture is recognised for helping women when they are pregnant particularly for dealing with things such as morning sickness, hypertension, breach birth and inducing labor.

There are certain times that you should see the acupuncturist during your pregnancy to help these things. For instance if you are facing a breach birth you should see your acupuncturist at about 30-33 weeks.

What if I am trying to get pregnant?

A recent University of Adelaide study showed that women undertaking IVF were more than twice as likely to conceive when having acupuncture before and after the IVF procedure.
