Physiotherapy

Bronwen Kendall has almost 20 years experience as a Physiotherapist and has been working with the Pilates and Healing Centre since 2008.  She integrates Craniosacral Therapy (CST) and Visceral Manipulation (VM) into her practice.   She is trained in Pilates, acupuncture and Reiki.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapists completea four (4) year tertiary training in which they study human movement & itsrehabilitation.  It equips them to assess, diagnose and  treat the underlying causes of musculoskeletal pain and  dysfunction that relates to joints, muscles, nerve tissue, and  faulty movement patterns.

Treatment will generally include mobilisation to restore normal mobility to joints, soft tissues and major nerve bundles. It may include other modalities to promote tissue healing. Education in self care is an important aspect of your treatment for long term solutions and can address exercise (specific and general instruction), posture, ergonomics and movement habits.

Craniosacral Therapy  (CST) and Visceral Manipulation (VM)

Life and motion are inseparable.   For a living body to function optimally, all layers of tissue from top to bottom, inside and out should be moving freely and fully.  Optimal mobility both permits and optimum function.

Craniosacral Therapy and Visceral Manipulation, are modalities which restore  mobility to connective tissues beyond the musculoskeletal system.   They are both gentle and specific, working with the elastic nature of tissues.  As such they are often the "missing piece" in manual medicine.

Fascia lines the skull and spinal column, where it is called "Dura".  It also forms the horizontal planes in the body to divide one compartment from the next.  Craniosacral Therpay targets these components of the body.

Viscera(internal organs) have their own fascial support system, positioning them and guiding their movement in relationship to the skeleton and with each other.  Visceral Mobilisation targets these components.

Restrictions in cranial membranes, fascial planes, or organ mobility can contribute to musculoskeletal problems, and visa versa.   Any restriction changes the axis of movement and lines of tension develop which affect how other local and distant parts of the body move and function.     Restricted organ mobility can relate to physical, emotional and or biochemical dysfunctions.

Craniosacral Therapy and Visceral Mobilisation are both light, gentle and highly specific manual therapies.   They target the specific tissue restriction that the body most needs assistance with at the times.

Treatments may or may not begin at the site of symptoms.  instead, it will target the factors that cause or perpetuate the symptoms.  By 'listening' to the body's tissues in a 3-D manner and with gentle touch, the practitioner is able to find the origin of the fascial lines of tension.  Treatment then progresses in the most efficient order that the body needs.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture makes use ofthe body’s energy (variously called chi, qi, or ki) within the constructs oftraditional chinese medicine.  Itacknowledges the whole nature of a person (physical & energetic, emotional &spiritual, nutritional & seasonal) It takes into account relationships andcycles that operate within the system. Bronwen uses acupuncture as an adjunct to physiotherapy in treatingmusculoskeletal conditions, allowing herto work with your musculoskeletal system in the context of yourgeneral health and well being, supporting both at once.  It has both a physical and energeticnature to it.  She predominantlyuses the very gentle Japanese Meridian & Ki acupuncture styles, which usegentle needle insertion, contact needling (non insertion) and moxa to activateacupuncture points.   Selectively, stronger needling of active Trigger Points (also known asdry needling) can be included.

Reiki

The word Reiki translatesliterally into “Universal Life Force Energy”.

Reiki speaks of Universal Life force Energy, the individual's own "package" of Life Force Energy and their connection to Universal Energy.   Reiki practitioners have been 'attuned' to life force energy, increasing their  own connection to Universal Life Force, and allowing Reiki to be conducted to another through touch
